Girls Grade 8 lost to Athol 54-36 this past Sunday. The girls held their own throughout most of the game only trailing by 6 points into the second half. Leading the way in scoring was Dayna Kowesky (10 pts) and Airelle Kemembin (8 pts). Strong performances were turned in by Nicole Chuimento and Christina Gautreau on both ends of the floor. Leading the way on the glass was Shaylyn Gallagher and Rachel Nugent. Despite the loss the girls qualify for playoffs, scheduled to begin Saturday, March 5.

Girls Grade 7 beat Littleton in a decisive 36-6 win this past Sunday. Leominster came out ready to dominate and was up by 25-5 at half time. The quick feet and able hands of their defense forced turnovers allowing Littleton to score 1 point in the second half. The team’s leading scorer was Alana Keating (9 pts). Offensive contributions were also made by Lexi Foster (7 pts), Gabi Foster (6 pts), Sophie Derry (6 pt), Brittney Peralta (4 pts), Ana Martinez (2 pts), and Sarah Hutchinson (2 pts). Mackenzie Sideleau, Alyssa Valliere, and Erin McDowell were key in the team’s victory.

Girls Grade 6 ended the regular season on a positive note with a win against Quabbin by a score of 35-26. After a slow start and getting into early foul trouble, Leominster took a one point lead into halftime 12-11. Quabbin would tie the game 17-17 mid way through the second period before Leominster managed to pull away for the win. Leominster offense was led by Gianna DelGiudice (9 pts) and Nikki Kowesky (8 pts). Also contributing to the offense was Abigail Browchuk (5 pts) along with Elizabeth Devaney, Emily Martin and Julia Colecchi, all with 4 points. A solid defensive effort throughout the game was put forth by Alexi Nowokunski, Caitlyn Buswell, Katherine Martineau and Shannon Hoover.

Girls Grade 5 finished their regular season schedule with 2 wins to hold onto third place in the overall Central Mass youth basketball standings. A hard fought battle against Wachusett (24-21) allowed the girls to move to a 6-4 record. Leominster survived a last second shot from Wachusett as they tried to tie the game with a 3 point shot. Great defensive stance and aggressive rebounding allowed Leominster to minimize second shots and keep the lead throughout the second half. Leominster’s offensive attack was led by Rylee Skinner (10 pts), Megan Hutchinson (7 pts), and Torri Hache (4 pts). Many players stepped up to maintain a high energy game and pressure packed defense. Great job by all players! - Emma Burkhart (2 pts), Jalynd McDonald, Mollee Malibeauf, Tia Rigopolous, Anina Icaboni, Amaya Escobales (1 pt), Chloe Vella, Dahlia Charpentier and Gabby Frederick.

Boys Grade 7 finished their regular season schedule with a 58-23 win over Oakmont. Jamie Gonzalez (14 pts) and Mike Hutchinson (12 pts) led the fast break attack with multiple baskets. Also contributing to the balanced scoring was Nick Allain (6 pts), Eddie Cuddahy (5 pts), Eli Tabales (4 pts), Connor Skinner (4 pts), Callum Connacher (4 pts), and Rusty Frederick (4 pts). The boys ended the season with a record of 7-5 and are headed to the playoffs.
