Fresh and local

There is nothing fresher right now than a sweet ear of corn, a juicy tomato, or just-picked strawberries and raspberries, which are all available right here in Leominster.

It is refreshing to visit Leominster’s farmstands and markets, owned by hardworking families or operated by local volunteers, who take pride in being able to offer the community with locally grown produce.

And it doesn’t matter what season – Leominster farms offer the sweetest produce in the summer; pumpkins and harvest in the fall… apples galore… and flowers in between.

The idea of being able to support our neighbors in their businesses is a good one. It is one of the reasons that stopping at the local farms has appealed to many of those who want to eat local, support local businesses and enjoy the benefits of fresh vegetables, fruits and other food.

Let’s throw the shrink-wrapped processed foods to the birds, but I have a feeling that even the birds would rather eat fresh, healthy, local produce!
