Decorated member of the Women’s Army Corp

LEOMINSTER - Arlene L. (LaFrance) Krummel, 89, of Leominster, resident of the Life Care Center for two years, died on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster of heart failure.

She was born on June 29, 1922, daughter of Donat and Alice (Maxfield) La France. She was a 1938 graduate of Leominster High School. She then attended and graduated from Salters Secretarial School in Worcester.

Arlene joined the Women’s Army Corp (WACS) from 1942 to 1945 where she earned the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. She attained the rank of Corporal.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish.

Arlene is survived by a sister, Lucille Fontaine of Leominster; two brothers, Raymond LaFrance of Leominster and Robert LaFrance of East Falmouth; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Art Gastrich in 1968 of St. Louis, MO, and her second husband, William H. Krummel, in September 1997.
