The idea for the event came a few years ago when another parishioner suggested to Anna Piermarini that the church host a cupcake walk, but planning to put on the best event possible does not happen overnight.

“It took a few years to put it all together, but this year we finally did. With the 75th anniversary of the founding of St. Anna Parish, this seemed to be a good way to introduce the event,” said Piermarini, who helped to plan the inaugural year’s festivities.

The weekend of the celebration, there will be a flavor to satisfy every taste, according to Piermarini. Some selections include the St. Anna’s 75th Anniversary Rum Cupcake, Orange Ricotta Cupcake, Cannoli Cupcake, Chocolate Kiss Cupcake, and Girl Scout Mint Cupcake, as well as the classic Vanilla and Chocolate.

While Father James Callahan certainly has his favorite flavors, he is not going to discriminate when tasting the different treats during that weekend.

“I’ll eat whatever flavor there is,!” he said.

For those who need a special consideration to enjoy the confections, there will also be Gluten Free, Sugar Free, and Vegan cupcakes.

Anyone who can only stop by the walk for a few minutes are able to take a sweet treat on the go. For Piermarini, the appeal is the ability to keep the cost of what they re selling low, especially since it is an event for the church.

“If I am going to charge boutique prices, I am going to be in a boutique,” she said.

During the weekend, cupcakes are $10 for a dozen, $7.50 for a halfdozen and $1 for a single cupcake. For those who pre-order, however, a dozen cupcakes cost $7.50, and $5 for a half-dozen.

Proceeds from the event will go into the church’s maintenance fund. Though there have been many repairs made to the building since Callahan became residing priest six years, including a complete renovation to the side entrance of the church, the to-do list is still never ending.

To pre-order online, Email stacupcakewalk@gmail.com, visit www.stannaparish.org, or go to the St. Anna’s Rectory. All orders will be packaged to pick up during the event.
