AGNES RITA EARLS

LANCASTER — Rita (McGrath) Earls of Lancaster, formerly of Southbridge, Leominster, Lancaster and Lunenburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12th in Lancaster.

Her husband, Martin J. Earls, passed away in 2001.

She was born April 3, 1913 in Sturbridge, MA, the daughter of Mary (Ryan) and Patrick F. McGrath. She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold F. McGrath and Joseph McGrath; two sisters, Helen M. McGrath and Mary P. Lanza; a niece, Patricia Lanza, and a nephew, Stephen Earls.

She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews; 20 great-great nieces and nephews; many cousins and so many wonderful friends.

Rita was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Southbridge and Bryant College, Smithfield, RI, where she was a member of Sigma Iota Chi Sorority. Rita was an active member of St. Leo’s Parish in Leominster, the Fortnightly Club, the Leominster Hospital and Burbank Hospital Guilds.

The family would like to thank the staff of the River Terrace Healthcare Facility for the extraordinary care and attention that Rita received. She celebrated her 100th Birthday there in 2013, joined by family and friends for a Mass of Celebration officiated by Monsignor John Doran of Leominster. Two days of parties followed.

Rita was truly a gift to her family, friends and the staff at River Terrace.

A private burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southbridge. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Leo’s Church in Leominster.
