Community Health Connections is there for you

An editorial by state Rep. Dennis Rosa

These days, health care is a major topic of discussion nationally with the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), and here in Massachusetts with the Massachusetts Health Connector, which just opened its new and improved website on Nov. 15.

In speaking about health care, here in North Central Massachusetts, we are fortunate to have Community Health Connections (CHC). They are a community health center organization which provides high-quality, comprehensive outpatient services to families and individuals of all ages. Their health centers are located throughout North Central Massachusetts and include the Fitchburg Community Health Center, Leominster Community Health Center, Greater Gardner Community Health Center and ACTION Health Services (a center whose particular focus is providing access and serving children and adults who receive housing assistance, are homeless, or are unstably housed).

Each of the health centers offers primary medical, full-service dental and behavioral health services. The Fitchburg Center also has an on-site pharmacy. They are committed to caring for all and they are always accepting new patients. CHC accepts MassHealth, Health Safety Net and most commercial health insurance plans. If you do not have insurance, no need to worry; they will help you enroll in a health insurance plan, and they offer a Sliding Fee Discount to those who qualify.

In Leominster, the Health Center is located at 14 Manning Ave., and in Fitchburg it just moved into a new building recently dedicated to the late Dr. Robert A. Babineau Sr. and called the Dr. R. Babineau Sr. Family Wellness Building and is located at 326 Nichols Road. In Gardner, it is located at 175 Connors St., and ACTION Health Services just moved in to their new headquarters located at 326 Nichols Road in Fitchburg.

The mission of Community Health Connections as mentioned on their website is as follows: “To provide high quality, comprehensive medical and behavioral health care, preventive and restorative dental care and pharmacy services to all residents of North Central Massachusetts, responsive to a culturally diverse population, without regard to income, insurance status or past medical history; and to participate in health care training programs. Our goal is to create a ‘health care home’ for individuals and families to access a wide range of health services all under one roof. Our mission is a humanitarian one; ensuring that all people, from all walks of life receive non-discriminative, excellent health care from providers who speak their language and are grounded in our mission to serve all.”

There is no need to go without medical services because you cannot afford it or do not have insurance. CHC is there for you. They will help you and take great care of you. For more information on CHC, you can go to their website at www.chcfhc.org or you can contact my office at (978) 534-6946.
