Blue Devils boys’ volleyball team takes on Wachusett

By John Orrell

HOLDEN — The Leominster boys’ varsity volleyball team hit the road Friday, April 29 to take on Wachusett in a match that went back and forth between the Mid- Wach rivals.

Knotted at one set apiece, both teams locked horns and took the third set into a marathon-like duel that went beyond the distance, with the Blue Devils coming out on top for a commanding 2-1 advantage.

But, the Mountaineers battled back to capture the final two sets on the afternoon for the match win. Final scores in the match were 25-21, 11-25, 29-27, 13-25 and 10-15.

“We didn’t play our best volleyball in a couple of possessions but we knew what we had to do to win,” said Wachusett senior co-captain Ryan McCarthy. “Leominster’s improved a lot. They took us to five sets and that’s the first team to do that this year. They fought, but we did too, and came out with the win.”
